The Medical Oncology specialist team of Dr. Guruprasad Bhat and Dr. Najeeb Behzad Mohammed have successfully performed autologous stem cell transplantin a 20 years male cancer patient. This patient was suffering from Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of Blood Cancer. He initially received Chemotherapy, when the cancer relapsed, he was referred for bone marrow transplant. The procedure involved Stem Cell apharesis and Cryopreservation followed by high dose Chemotherapy for 4 days. This was followed by reinfusion of Stem cells. Then the patient was under intensive care till engraftment of stem cells on 10 th day. Patient was discharged next day after engraftment. Unity Hospital Mangalore is the 1 st Corporate hospital in Dakshina Kannada to perform this procedure. Along with Renal transplant, Bone marrow transplant can now be performed at our centre.
